Discover Your Creative Community with PlaceMakers
Creative PlaceMakers is all about connecting people who share a passion for the arts, whether it’s within your local neighborhood or across the globe. You don’t have to be a professional to be a PlaceMaker. In fact, many of us pursue creative passions outside our day jobs. Whether you’re an actor waiting tables, a nurse who quilts, or a musician balancing a 9-to-5, your love for art defines you here.
When you join, you will choose categories and tags that represent your creative identity. They become pins on an interactive map making it easy to find and connect with others—online or in person. Whether you’re looking for collaboration or community, PlaceMakers opens the door to a world of creative connections. The map will also help local leadership plan projects that can use these resources with an Asset Based Community Development approach.
The Arts
Defining the Creative Field
The lines between arts, crafts, and design can be blurry and even contentious. Historically, all professions were once considered an art—whether it was “the art of medicine” or “the art of mathematics.” Craft referred to professional skill, while Art suggested a unique, inspired approach. For us, the distinction doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that creative people have a measurable impact on a place, boosting its economy and making it more livable and engaging.
Our focus is on what most people recognize as the arts: fine art, high craft, music, dance, theater, and similar creative disciplines.
Our Ethos: Kindness, Tolerance, and Creativity
At Creative PlaceMakers, we believe in fostering communities built on kindness and tolerance. In a world facing immense challenges—war, climate change, racism, gender discrimination, and poverty—we aim to create a space where members feel safe and supported, both online and in person.
Much like the Green Book of the Jim Crow which ensured safe travels for African Americans, we commit to upholding values that allow creativity, diversity, and sustainability to flourish. These are defined on our About page. By standing together, we can transform these strengths into a thriving community.
Get Listed!
Your membership is $25/year. We hope that this will be affordable to people, wherever they are in the world.Â
If you are in a war zone, have suffered from a natural disaster or are facing economic hardships, we do have free memberships for one year. Hopefully, this will be enough time to improve your situation. If not, let us know.
For everyone else:
- Payments are made as a subscription, renewing yearly. If you end your subscription early, your listing will go into edit mode.
- Purchase the Creative listing, fill out the fields and it will be held for approval. If you wear many hats, you can purchase more memberships. Example: I run a collective (Artizan Made), am an artist, and have an Airbnb. I have three listings here. You can also list everything you do on one listing. It just depends on how you want to show on the map.
- We reserve the right to decline any membership for any reason and will refund the price and cancel the subscription if that happens.
- You may use your native language. If the Google Translator does not work, we will have to translate it to English, which is the default language on this site.
- Photo sizes: 1500 x 1500 pixels, 72 jpeg. Square.
- All photos must be well done. This is subjective on our part. We’ll ask you for better ones if they don’t meet our standards.
About Categories and Tags:
My area of expertise is in the textiles and fiber art arena, so I need help with other disciplines.  See the current categories on this page.
Deciding which categories to use is a huge chore. Too many will confuse people and not enough might become too general. Please be patient as we test our list.
Tags help zoom in on specialties that many in the community might look for. That list is here.
Your Profile
Think about how you want to connect with other people, both locally and internationally. You will have plenty of space to describe what you do, to list your links and contact info and to post 6 photos. When you apply for membership, you will answer several questions. You can use these as your profile or write your own description. Make sure that you let people know how you would like to connect and what this community can do to help support your creative passions.
Privacy: Some people do not want to make their location known publicly. You can choose a public place like a park, a library, a hospital or any other location and your pin will show up there.
