Neddy Astudillo

I am a Venezuelan eco-theologian, a lover of the Earth who seeks to know God in and with the guidance of God’s Creation.
I am an organizer and Presbyterian pastor based in the US. I coordinate a Spanish Climate Justice & Faith online Certification program at the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary; have taught eco-theology at theological seminaries in Latin America and the United States.

In 1998, together with my husband, we co-founded the Angelic Organics Learning Center, a farm-based nonprofit organization where people connect with food, farming and caring for the Earth. For fourteen years, I served as pastor of a Lutheran-Presbyterian Latino immigrant ministry, and also worked for five of those years with a multi-faith environmental organization as coordinator for the Latin America region.

In 2013 I earned my Doctor of Ministry in “Greening the Church” from Drew University. I have been published in diverse media, including Workingpreacher.org, and most recently the International Handbook on Creation Care and Eco-Diakonia, Concepts and Theological Perspectives of Churches from the Global South.

In 2020, I received the Presbyterians for Earth Care annual award for my commitment to Environmental Justice.

My heart is in many places. I live in Florida, USA.

Languages and travel:

I speak Spanish and English. My mother is from Colombia, my father from Venezuela. As a young person we lived in Argentina, and I moved to the USA 30 years ago. My life has been enriched by the opportunity of visiting many countries and by two parents who taught me the wonder of nature, and to love human diversity. As an adult, I have also visited South Africa, Dominican Republic, Peru, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Brasil, Uruguay, Mexico, Cuba, Philippines, Canada, Spain, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Scotland and Egypt.

Sustainability and diversity:

The planet we all live in is so beautiful! A gem to protect for all future generations <3 Since I started learning about the impact of my actions on other people around the world, and the natural world, we have made it a task to buy local, connect with farmers, grow some of our own food, plant trees, reduce plastic, eating lower in the food chain… It is very hard to be sustainable when you live in the USA, but it is important to be mindful of our choices at every chance we have.
