Reggie LeFlore mural - The Ancestor, the Identity, and the Seed

When you join Creative PlaceMakers, you will choose categories and tags that represent your creative identity. Your listing is represented by a pin on our interactive map making it easy to find and connect with others—online or in person. Whether you’re looking for collaboration or community, PlaceMakers opens the door to a world of creative connections.  The map will also help local leadership plan projects that can use these resources with an Asset Based Community Development approach.

get listed!

Your membership is $25/year.  We hope that this will be affordable to people, wherever they are in the world.

If you are in a war zone, have suffered from a natural disaster or are facing economic hardships, we have free memberships for one year on approval.  Make your request through our Contact page.   Let us know if a year is not enough.

instructions:

  • Payments are made as a subscription, renewing yearly.  If you end your subscription early, your listing will go into edit mode for one month.
  • Create an account and purchase the Creative listing, fill out the fields and it will be held for approval.  You will be notified about your status and if your paid listing does not fit with our ethos, we will refund your payment as soon as we see your listing.  (Please be patient as we do deal with time differences.)
  • You get a banner (1000 x 350 pixels, 72 dpi jpeg), 6 images (1500 x 1500 pixels, 72 dpi jpeg), a video, 6 categories, 6 tags, and your story with whatever links you want to share.  Make sure that you add contact information so that people know how to connect with you.
  • All photos must be well done.  This is subjective on our part. We’ll ask you for better ones if they don’t meet our standards.
  • You can purchase more listings if you want to.  Example:  I run a collective (Artizan Made), am an artist, and have an Airbnb.  I have three listings here.  You can also describe everything you do on one listing.  More listings means more categories and tags.
  • A separate profile is created when you set up a listing. This gives you access to your listings, account info and shows any blog posts you may have written.  See mine as an example:

  • We reserve the right to decline a membership for any reason.  Spammers will be deleted without notice.
  • New members are announced on our Facebook (42,000 Likes) and Instagram (8,600 Followers) pages!  We also have a Pinterest page announcing new members.

your story

Think about how you want to connect with other people. Do you want to meet in person? Do you have a business or events? Are you looking for collaborators in your projects?

Privacy:  Some people do not want to make their location known publicly.  You can choose a public place like a park, a library, a hospital or any other location and your pin will show up there on the map.

defining the creative fields

We have over 80 categories to pick from. The lines between arts, crafts, and design can be blurry and even contentious. Historically, all professions were once considered an art—whether it was “the art of medicine” or “the art of mathematics.” Craft referred to professional skill, while Art suggested a unique, inspired approach. For us, the distinction doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that creative people have a measurable impact on a place, boosting its economy and making it more livable and engaging.

Our focus is on what most people recognize as the arts: fine art, high craft, music, dance, theater, and similar creative disciplines.

about categories and tags:

See the current categories on this page.  You can also scroll down the list in the top menu under Creatives.

Deciding which categories to use is a huge chore.  Too many will confuse people and not enough might become too general.  Please be patient as we test our list.  My area of expertise is with fine crafts and I could use help with organizing other disciplines.  Suggestions are welcome!

We’re using tags for circles and other special interests.  Circles are designated communities that have a large following.  If you would like to grow your own circle, we can create a tag for you.  You let your followers know and when they join, they use your tag and automatically pop on to your map in your circle.  Creating a Circle is free.  Just send me an image and the info you want to include.  Make sure that you let your followers know that they must use your tag.

grow your creative community with placemakers

Creative PlaceMakers connects people who share a passion for the arts, locally or across the globe. You don’t have to be a professional to be a PlaceMaker. In fact, many of us pursue creative passions outside of our day jobs. Whether you’re an actor waiting tables, a nurse who quilts, or a musician balancing a 9-to-5, your creative passion defines you here. A commitment to sustainability and embracing diversity are also central to this community.  We want this to be a safe space that honors our struggling planet!

We will add a member area where people can share content, an events calendar and other features down the road.

our ethos: kindness, tolerance, and creativity

At Creative PlaceMakers, we believe in fostering communities built on kindness and tolerance. In a world facing immense challenges—war, climate change, racism, gender discrimination, and poverty—we aim to create a space where members feel safe and supported, both online and in person.

Much like the Green Book of the Jim Crow era which ensured safe travels for African Americans, we commit to upholding values that allow creativity, diversity, and sustainability to flourish.  These are defined on our About page.  By standing together, we can transform these strengths into thriving communities.
